| AMD Chooses A Name For Its New Core: Opteron |

| AMD has decided on naming the core in its new line of processors Opteron instead of continuing with the Athlon name. While they will still be producing Hammerheads and future lines of processors with Athlon cores, the idea is that the processors that are DP or MP capable will now be called Opterons. Like the word "Athlon," Opteron sounds like "Optimus", which is from the Latin dictionary meaning "best" or "optimal unit." This name is just k-rad.. reminds me of Optimus Prime from Transformers!
