Digg Swarm & Digg Stack

I'm a fan of eye candy -- especially when it involves the opposite gender, but occasionally geek eye candy is good. Case in point, Digg has some nice geek eye candy in their "labs" called Digg Swarm and Digg Stack. These flash animations are integrated with their database and visually show site activity in some fancy-dancy ways.

There's just one question I have.. why? There's really no practical use for these applications beyond their visuals. It seems like they could be developing something much more useful in their "labs" with all of the data the site is mining. Why not harness the power of the community they have at their hands and do something creative with the data? Lets see a Digg Directory or Digg Search Engine that utilizes sites that received positive Diggs. How about a "suggest" feature that works like Tivo and suggests links based on sites you previously Digged? Come on Digg, use that data!
